Fun Summer Camp for Kids

Safari Kid Summer Camp has a reputation for offering the perfect blend of fun and learning. Whether it be through group collaboration projects, challenging games and activities, sports, dance, drama, or technology, our campers will surely enjoy this exciting time making new memories! Each year our research team works with teachers and curriculum developers to design engaging themes and activities, and 2023 is no different!

Little campers (TKG-2nd grades) will want to dive in to make their own slime, forecast the weather, identify creepy crawlies, invent the next million-dollar idea, and in true Safari Kid fashion, safari into Africa! For older campers (3rd and up), the final frontier awaits- whether that be space, virtual reality, or Hogwarts, adventure awaits! Would you rather become a spy, a superhero, a ballplayer, a marine biologist, or a movie director? With our Safari Kid Summer Camp, you don’t have to choose just one path! TKG – Second Grade

Transitional kindergarten through second-grade campers will celebrate summer through a series of themes.

Week 1: Fascinating Felines

All things cats  from house cats to lions and tigers. Little ones will learn that they are all related. Learn more about how various felines are similar and different, and scratch your creative itch through this theme.

Week 2: Hall of Fame

Campers divided into groups/pairs, create a team name, and then given various challenges, varied in scope, so as to allow everyone to feel useful/successful. Examples of Challenges: brain puzzles, physical obstacle courses, scavenger hunts, artistic competitions, (no bake) cooking challenge, stem challenge, storytelling challenge, minute-to-win-it type challenges, trivia challenge, etc. Each time a team wins, the team enters the Hall of Fame with the goal of by the end of the week, all teams should be recognized for something.

Week 3: Robots vs. Aliens

Enter the fascinating world of science fiction. A fun balance of engineering and coding through robotics but also the sensory satisfaction of making slime and putty to create characters who will battle it out to overtake our imaginations!

Week 4: It's a Mystery!

Exciting activities themed around a quest that kids will solve by unlocking clues or an activity that will help them for example: Which castaways will find their way off an island? SK castaways will engage in a STEM activity creating a model of a floating boat to see whose will hold the most weight (in marbles or pennies). Other mysteries: pirates looking for a lost treasure, a family looking for their lost puppy, FBI agents determining who is the jewel thief, etc.

Week 5: Majestic Mountains

Take a hike into the mountains and get motivated by the beautiful magic of nature. (field trip potential) Learn about the mountain habitat and what animals are native to mountains. Do you know the mountain ranges of the world? What mountain range is closest to where you live? Trek on over to find out the answers to these questions and learn how nature can be an inspiration for scientific discovery!

Week 6: Group Art

A DIY master camp with weekly projects in which kids push the limits of what can be created on their own, as they create together. Perfect for kids who love to get artistically inventive or who want to learn how to get there! The fun of a project is doubled when done with friends!

Week 7: Moonwalk

National Moon Day is celebrated July 20, 1969, the day the first man walked on the moon (Neil Armstrong). Honor this day by taking a week to visit our closest celestial neighbor, the moon! What new mysteries did Orion, the uncrewed spacecraft we sent to the moon last winter, uncover since our last mission there (Apollo)? What are the phases of the moon? Is there water on the moon? Why does it matter to us?

Week 8: Let's Make a Difference

Children who are encouraged at a young age that the way they think about others matters are more likely to show more empathy throughout their lives. We do not expect one child to immediately change the world, but together they will make a difference. When broad ideasbeing a good friend, caring for wildlife, thinking about the environment, reaching out to those in need, being a good leaderare broken down into small acts of kindness, change becomes possible. It reminds children that they are not the center of the universe, but the universe can be made a better place with them in it. (Fieldtrip Potential: Visit a senior center/animal rescue, do beach clean, organize food drive- create care packages, etc. OR Have a speaker come to the center.)

This mystical theme is centered around all things magical such as unicorns, elves, fairies, and trolls. It will delight childrens imagination and entice their creative spirit. This week will be centered around artistrypainting, drawing, sketching, sculpting and creative writing and storytelling.

Creepy Crawlies

Are you fascinated watching an ant carry a crumb of food 20x its size? Does the discovery of a rolly poly (or pill bug) on your path cause you to bend down and begin observing? Become a junior entomologist as we formally introduce you to the leggy lives of the weird and wonderful bugs of our world.

Junior Inventors

Can you believe that when your parents were your age there were no mobile phones? What inventions will the kids of the future grow up with? Thats in your hands! Learn about inventions of the past & present and decide what the future may hold!

National Parks

Often called national treasures, our national parks are the physical essence of what makes the US America the Beautiful. Learn more about your country while planning an itinerary for a family trip to one of these treasures!

Petacular!

Pets quickly become a part of the family. Knowing how to properly take care of specific animals might be the key to knowing which pet to someday get. Or if you already have a pet you love, we need you to tell us your tips and tricks! Animal lovers unite!

Junior Meteorologists

What is one thing you will encounter every day that you step outside? The weather of course! Did you know that the last full week in April is designated as the National Sky Awareness Week? Since you likely missed it, we will spend this week becoming more aware of the thin slice of air that surrounds Earth and all its many mysteries. Tune into the latest weather report, it might be given by you!

African Safari

Perhaps you can find the continent of Africa on a map, but what else do you know about it? Join our safari into a jungle of knowledge as we discover what a safari is, learn about the environments found on an African safari, and learn details about the various animals that you will encounter on this exciting Safari Kid excursion!

Underwater World

Under the blue waves of the ocean is a whole magical world to discover. We invite all little pirates, mini mermaids, and junior marine biologists to join us in deep-sea study, where knowledge and imagination come together in a powerful current of fun!

No summer is complete without a carnival and a clown! Join us for a fun filled week of nurturing natural talents and learning new ones! Then impress your friends and family with your juggling skills, your balancing acts, and your face painting prowess.

Marvelous Heroes

No one can get enough of the comic book heroes–what makes them so appealing? What powers do they possess, and which ones are your favorites? What kind of heroes do you know in your own life? Are you on your way to becoming a superhero?

Our solar system is the backdrop (and even takes center stage) for many books, movies, and television shows. But how much do you know about our own Milky Way Galaxy? Consider the space tourism industry and companies such as SpaceX. Why are so many eager to explore space? Join us in our out-of-this-world exploration of the final frontier!

Play Ball!

What piece of equipment do the most popular American sports all include? A ball of course! Learn the history of these sports, learn the rules of the games, and then play ball ! Our goal isnt perfection of the game, its just to connect with our friends, get our hearts pumping, and have some fun!

DreamWorks vs Pixar

Lets visit the story of how DreamWorks and Pixar rise to become two of the biggest animation studios. While exploring the movie hits of both companies we will also channel our creativity and imagination to develop unique animated characters that will tell their own stories.

Night at the Museum

This classic movie takes place at the American Museum of Natural History and its characters are historical figures who come to life at night. Utilizing this idea of historical fantasy, we will set one foot in the past as we recreate and reimagine what once was by designing our own unique museum exhibits!

Spy Among Us

No junior spy is fully ready until they go through the stealth training shared within this camp. Master the art of code creating & busting, and stealthily maneuver obstacle courses & laser traps to get through an IRL Among Us challenge, and so youll never be sus!

Climate Coolers

Mother Earth thanks you for being so dedicated to the 3Rsreduce, reuse, and recycle. Learn other amazing ideas on how to be kind to Earth, too! We only have this one livable planet, its important to know how to actively treat her right!

Virtual Reality

Safari Kid campers will not want to miss watching their innovative visions and creative stories come to life during this week of virtual reality! They will learn how to create, design, and build engaging virtual environments through the use of a VR creation tool. Campers will develop their spatial skills, tap into their imaginations, and create immersive digital experiences. Have no doubt that your camper will be ready for the reality of the future after this week!

Augmented Reality

Get ready to be immersed in a hands-on experience of amazing technology where real life is modified and enhanced by computer-generated sights and sounds. Safari Kid campers will learn how to integrate digital information with live video or real time environments. Using smart devices and AR software, campers will create their own digital characters who will integrate with the real environment.

Web Design

We know that all businesses require a web page in which to prove their existence. Your camper will be given an edge by learning how web pages are created and designed through the use of HTML and CSS code. Safari Kid campers will be given the amazing opportunity of learning how to consider the framework of a website they want to build and get familiar with reading, writing, and debugging HTML code.

Stop Animation

In a world where complicated computer graphics such as CGI are dominating movies, there is a growing movement to get back to simpler, more artistic effects. In this week, students will learn the simple story telling charm of stop animation. They will enjoy delving into their imaginations to create a story line, setting, and characters to create their own stop animation movie. They will learn how to add music, sound effects, titles, and credits to their creation, and by the end of the week will delight in sharing this work of art with their peers.

Engineering

We know kids have a natural fascination with both building things and taking things apart. This curiosity is how our little explorers figure out how things work in the world. Safari Kid Engineering Camp guides this natural curiosity into more formal explorations  using hands-on learning strategies and project-based learning. Safari Kid campers will discover the process of construction through our innovative engineering curriculum in which they will investigate a problem, imagine a solution, and then work to design, create, and improve it. As a result, our campers self-confidence will blossom as they begin to see themselves as creative problem solvers, while also developing inner strength in character through their perseverance and determination.

Safari Kids Got Talent!

Performing arts-themed activities throughout the week with the goal of a performance- learning dance routines like Tik-Tok/Reel-inspired mini-performances, learning songs, short dramas, telling jokes in a stand-up comedy style, performing/creating in a unique way in front of an audience.

Electronics Lab

Collect old appliances and electronics. Then use tools to safely take them apart to make discoveries and theories on how individual parts work. Also use snap circuits, little bits, breadboards, etc. to learn the basics of circuitry and electronics.
=

Storytelling Jar

Fill a clear plastic jar with little toys and animals. Choose one item from the jar to begin a story told orally. Then allow the next child to quickly pick the next item from the jar which they will incorporate into the story. Once they are done telling their part of the story (can give a time limit if necessary) they will pass to the next camper, and so on. By the end, everyone should have had a chance to tell part of the story and a lot of laughs will be had!

Historical Shout-Outs!

In pairs or groups, campers will be given a historical speech and asked to translate it into the verbiage of today in order to then perform a Then vs. Now speech that highlights what was said then, and what it would sound like today. They can even make it into a Hamilton-style rap if they feel so inspired!

Indoor Bowling Tournament

Using a play bowling set you may already have, or a DIY from water bottles, create a bowling set and alley that will set the stage for a little friendly competition among your campers!

Pen Pal Party

Practice writing skills through the lost art of letter writing. Allow campers to choose a friend or family member to write a letter to. Younger campers can draw a picture and then write one or two sentences to practice using their emergent language writing skills. Learn how to address an envelope, where to place a stamp, and where to drop off the letter, and the magic of snail mail will be revealed!

Nature Untamed

Learn about a specific natural disaster each week and then in groups create a visual aid or perform an experiment that helps to break down the information in a fun way.

Teamwork Wins!

Fun indoor and outdoor challenges in which two or more groups of students are asked to complete the same task and whichever finishes the task successfully first will come out victorious!

Knead to Bake

Children will enjoy using a safe easy bake oven as they follow simple baking recipes. They will effortlessly learn about measurements and fractions firsthand as they focus on the task at handbaking delicious, sweet treats to have for a snack!

Brain Benders

Optical illusions, perception, and memory games that will either blow our campers minds or strengthen them!

Balloon Volleyball

Introduce kids to the fun sport of volleyball by using a balloon. It will float with enough time to give even the least experienced player a chance to return it and enjoy themselves!

Science!

Rotate through various sciences (biology, astronomy, physics, earth science, chemistry) to learn something new every week through hands-on experimentation and/or group projects.

Tie-dye Delight!

The art of tie-dye is a classic form of expression that kids love to get their hands on! Dont just think t-shirtsmake tie-dye pillowcases, scrunchies, face masks, cotton napkins, tote bags, flags, baby wipes, and shorts, too! Get some color in your life and feel the summer tie-dye vibes!

Whats the Word?

Crossword puzzles, word searches, word scrambles, and other fun word games for campers to delight in.

Grossology

Some kids love to be gross, others to be grossed out! Harness the engagement factor of grossness with activities which they will learn from in the process! Who can make the most snotty-snot (slime)? Yuck! Conduct an experiment to see which toilet paper will withstand the most poop or pee! Ewww! Have a competition on who can create (and eat) the grossest snack (within reason). Bleh! Make like a zombie and eat a Jell-O brain snack! So gross! But OH so fun!

Campers will use their imagination and creativity to engage in the arts!

Yoga & Mindfulness

We aim to help our campers manage their anxiety, while developing their strength, focus, and flexibility.

Coding Corner

Having children learn the language of computers at a young age prepares them for the future. Coding involves problem solving and helps children with communication, creativity, math, writing, and confidence. Through coding challenges the students will gain knowledge of how things work in a fun way.
